South Africa: The South Durban Industrial Basin
One Global Economy with the support of Cisco Systems is working in the Durban Industrial Basin in South Africa. The Basin is a heavily industrialized area which has been gripped by a recession in recent years. One Global Economy has worked with a consortium of local, community-based NGOs, and a number of the surrounding large scale industries to create the first One Global Economy community technology center in the Austerville Library. The center was opened on February 10th, 2007. In addition, One Global Economy -in partnership with the community- has built a local community portal to link residents to jobs and provide them with global information and best practices on HIV/AIDS prevention, education, entrepreneurship and government services. The site, the Durban Beehive, also launched at the opening of the One Global Economy community technology center.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan: The 'e-village' Project
One Global Economy, supported by the Intel Corporation, is working with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology to develop a model 'reference community' in Jordan, the 'e-village'. The project serves two Jordanian villages, Libb and Mleih, characterized by high levels of poverty and unemployment despite high education rates among residents. The local, Arabised community portal focuses on streamlining access to services and provides residents with local and global technical assistance on micro enterprise development, asset-building, and education. Partners include the US Agency for International Development, Jordan Telecommunications, and the United Nation's UNIFEM. The Jordan Beehive launched on June 23rd, 2007.
Turkey
One Global Economy was approached by Cisco to begin work on a Turkish Beehive to be used in 200 computer centers throughout Istanbul. One Global Economy has engaged various NGOs, stakeholders, and technical representatives from Cisco and Proline--a local web development firm. A preliminary version of the Turkish Beehive, focusing on Istanbul is set to launch in Setptember 2007. Thereafter, additional localization will take place to make the site even more relevant and customized to each target community being served.
Canada
One Global Economy is also working in northern Alberta to conduct a household asset mapping survey for SURE Northern, a division of Shell Oil. OGE has interviewed community members from the Wabasca, Chipewyan Lake, Calling Lake, and Sandy Lake, Trout Lake, and Peerless Lake. OGE will use the information from the interviews to design a household survey which will then be presented to the community members for feedback. OGE will write, revise, and administer the survey in the communities and will submit a report to SURE Northern of the findings which will be shared with the six communities and will help shape SURE Northern’s corporate social responsibility program in Alberta.

Northern Ireland
One Economy was recruited by leadership from Belfast’s Catholic and Protestant communities, as well as those responsible for negotiating the ceasefire in the late 1990’s, to help rebuild the Belfast community. We have formed a coalition which will be central to the rebuilding of Northern and Western Belfast. One Economy executives have engaged in a preliminary series of community meetings with a diverse set of stakeholders to develop a “blueprint” for digital inclusion in Northern and Western Belfast.
